I’m Amruta, a reporter, writer, and social media manager. I’ve worked in the news and media for over 10 years covering art and culture through print, digital, and video journalism.

I have a diverse educational background. I’m a graduate of Columbia Journalism School’s Master of Arts program in Art and Culture Criticism. I also hold a diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from the Xavier Institute of Communications in Mumbai, India. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pune, India.

Social Media

Over the past seven years, I’ve worked on executing social media strategies for publishing news and social content on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and Threads. In these years, I’ve managed the creation, packaging, and publication of content online and worked on increasing audience engagement for brands like Google and YouTube. I’ve worked with tools such as Sprinklr, EasyLive, OBS, Looker, CrowdTangle, and platform-specific tools such as Meta Studio.

Video

I’ve worked as a Video Producer and Community Manager for Brut America and Brut India, the fastest growing video publishers in these respective countries. As a reporter, I produced political stories during general elections, conducted original interviews with newsmakers, and curated video content based on the daily news cycle. As a Social Media Manager, I tracked video stories from their inception to their publishing. I was a script writer for Curry Western Films, for a documentary about the Indian spice market and trade.

As a features writer, I have been commissioned stories at prominent news outlets such as The Lily by The Washington Post, Vice, Livemint, The Hindu, Scroll.in, India Abroad. I’ve worked as a reporter for the leading Indian newspaper, The Indian Express, writing about art, film, theatre but also politics, crime, and social justice. I was a regular contributor to the paper’s weekly magazine, Eye, where I expanded my work to long form journalism.

Publishing

As a Book Editor, I worked on a now-published book of non fiction essays on immigrant women of the United States. The book, Invincible Women was a passion project of renowned radiologist and author, Dr. Bilha Fish. It is a collection of conversations between the author and 21 American immigrant women. I worked as a research assistant for the project and later came on board as copy editor. I was also involved in the pitching and post publishing of the book along with its marketing and promotion.

Audio

I co-produced and co-hosted a monthly pop culture and entertainment podcast called Nicely Done. Along with my co-host, I worked on the concept and scripting of each episode, production and post-production, and publicity and promotion.
